There are 3 types of 3.5" drives for Apple Computers:
NOTE:Any of these drives with the exception of the UniDisk 3.5" can be used with the Laser Universal Disk controller installed in a slotted Apple II.

1) The FDHD Drive requires a separate controller card, the Apple II 3.5" Controller Card, Apple P/N A0076LL/A in order to function in an Apple //e, and to be used as a High Density drive on a IIgs. The FDHD Drive will function as a normal 800K (AppleDisk 3.5") when plugged in the back of the IIgs as opposed to being used with the controller installed.
